Our Name
The Apostles were Jesus' closest friends and associates who were with Him in His ministry and witnessed His death and resurrection (Acts 1:21-22). After His resurrection, Jesus also appeared to Paul and appointed him as an apostle. The office of Apostle no longer exists, but the function of an apostle is entrusted to every follower of Jesus. The creeds say the Church is apostolic, meaning first of all it is built on the foundation of the Apostles' teaching given them by Jesus. Secondly, the Church is apostolic in that it is sent into the culture to renew it with the message and mercy of Jesus and His Kingdom. The word "apostle" literally means "one who is sent."
At Apostles Church we see ourselves as those who live by faith in Jesus and according to the pattern of Jesus as emulated and articulated by the apostles whom He commissioned. We also see ourselves as those sent into the culture to love, serve and announce the good news of His Kingdom. We are sent to shape the culture, living lives that are evidence to the world that God, in Christ, is healing and restoring all creation.
