Wednesday Prayer
We invite you to join us in devoting ourselves to pray every Wednesday from 12pm – 1pm as we seek God for our lives, for our churches, and for our city. This is a joint effort of several churches throughout the city that we long to see grow into a movement. So join us on Wednesdays from 12pm – 1pm praying alone or with other Christians. Invite your co-workers, neighbors, roommates, and more to gather with you and pray through the Lord’s Prayer as we seek gospel renewal in our lives and for New York City.
Here are some guidelines to help you pray through the Lord’s Prayer (adapted from Matthew 6.9-13):
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name”
- Acknowledge God’s greatness, holiness, and goodness.
- Give thanks to him for the gospel that saves us and for our hope in Jesus.
- Praise God that he has made us daughters and sons through Jesus and given us confidence to seek him in prayer.
“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
- Pray that God’s will would be done in New York City and throughout this world.
- Pray that he would draw people to Jesus, rescue them from sin, move against injustice, and use his Church to share his gospel.
- Pray for his will to be done in our lives. Repent of where you have resisted the Father’s will.
“Give us this day our daily bread.”
- Acknowledge our need for God, dependence on him, and love for him. Pray that we would love him with our whole heart, mind, and strength.
- Thank him for his provision and love. Pray for trust in him as our only Hope and Provider.
- Pray for the needs of others. Pray for those you know who are hurting, sick, or caught in sin.
“And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.”
- Give thanks for our forgiveness in Christ’s gospel. Pray for forgiveness of all that we choose to worship instead of God and repent of these things.
- Pray for the people around you. Pray for forgiveness, humility, grace, and love towards them.
"And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
- Pray for God’s protection from temptation to give in to our pride, our comforts, our lusts, our rage, our hate, and more.
- Pray that we would be so in love with Jesus that sin’s lure would fall away.
