Genesis 1:1 - “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
Hebrews 11:6 - And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.
Who is this God Who created All from nothing?
He is the great and glorious God. He is the Majesty, the Holy One. He is the Eternal, All-Existing God. He is the Infinite, All-Present Creator. He is wiser than all human knowledge. He is more powerful than all nature’s energies. He is superior to all earthly treasures. He is more beautiful than all that attracts us. He is kinder than all our generosity. He is more righteous than all our moral worth. He is more gracious than all our guilt He is more merciful than all our shame. He is more life beyond our death. He is more loving than we dare ourselves to dream.
He is the Holy Trinity. Creation comes from the Father, in the Son, and through the Holy Spirit.
So how then is it even possible that this Infinite, Eternal, Omnipresent God could create Creation? How could there be room in time and space for Creation?
This is how the Infinite, Eternal, All Present God brought Creation into being out of nothing: God made room in Himself for His Creation. That’s right, the Infinite, Eternal, All-Present God humbled and concentrated Himself, willing Creation into existence in space and time, in Himself. The Universe, All of Reality – Past, Present, and Future – in every dimension of space – exists within the Triune God.
God the Father has made room in Himself for you – in His Son and through His Spirit.
Have you made room in yourself for Him?
Ephesians 4:6 - “one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”
Acts 17:28 - “‘In him [Christ] we live and move and have our being’;”
Both of these Scriptures affirm what theologians call a “Panentheistic” view of God. While God is distinct from His Creation, He is not distant. God literally enfolds the Universe. The Universe is within God. And God is within the Universe. Through God the Holy Spirit, the Creator fills All with His Life-giving, Life-sustaining Presence. He fills you and me, and we all of us are enfolded in His Presence – whether we want to be or not.
Psalm 139
Matthew 10:29 – “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.”
The greatest of the Reformation theologians, John Calvin, eloquently expressed in his magisterial The Institutes of the Christian Religion, “God created the world for this end, so that it might be a theatre of His glory.” And Abraham Kuyper, Prime Minister of the Netherlands and the Founder of the Free University of Amsterdam echoes in his 20th Century-shaping Lectures on Calvinism, "There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry: 'Mine!'"
Revelation 21:3 – “And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.’”
What does this mean for us, as People of the Spirit’s Presence, as people of compelling lives in our city?
This means that we must live now, as we will live then – as we were meant to live in Original Creation before the Fall into sin and death. God’s future is breaking into our present, transforming our lives and our world!
KNOWING OUR ORIGIN, WE MUST LIVE OUR DESTINY!
